- Dynamic IP adressing is usually only used when your computer isn't always
- connected to internet (e.g. via a provider or a university). It means, that
- your computer don't get the same IP adress every time when connecting it.
-
- Static IP adressing means, that a computer has always the same IP adress. This
- method is used for all continous connected computers and also by providers.
-
- The advantages of static IP adressing are, that you can be reached with the same
- IP adress from outside (e.g. if somebody wants to get files via FTP from your or
- if somebody wants to TALK to you, ...) and the setup with a SLIP-connection is
- usually easier.
-
- The advantages of dynamic IP adressing is, that the provider or unversity
- do need less IP-adresses for their log-in accounts. Providers with dynamic
- IP adressing should be cheaper :-)
